France welcomes the announcement today in Washington, under the aegis of President Trump, of an agreement between President Aliyev and Prime Minister Pashinyan with a view to normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“The results achieved through the United States' commitment mark a decisive step forward. The signing and ratification, as soon as possible, of the Peace Treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan will complete this process. In this perspective, France supports the parties' joint call to begin the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group structures.
The normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the development of regional connectivity, and the reopening of borders, while respecting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states and the principles established by the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration, must enable the South Caucasus to become an area of peace and prosperity, for the benefit of the region's populations. Alongside its European partners, France will continue to actively contribute to this, particularly within the framework of the European Political Community”, the Ministry said.
