Authorities in some South American countries have issued tsunami warnings for the Pacific coast after a powerful earthquake struck off the coast of Kamchatka on Wednesday, regional media reported.
Ecuador's National Tsunami Warning Center said the disaster could reach the Galapagos Islands. It is possible that the "great wave" could also reach the mainland of the country.
The Peruvian Navy's Department of Hydrography and Navigation also issued a tsunami warning for the coast of Peru and urged people to be vigilant.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric ordered the evacuation of coastal areas three hours before the possible arrival of the "great wave". A tsunami warning has been issued for almost the entire coastline of the country.
