The presidents of Iran and Azerbaijan met on the sidelines of the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization summit.
Masoud Pezeshkian and Ilham Aliyev emphasized the friendly and fraternal nature of the relations between the two neighboring countries. Aliyev noted that immediately after the start of the conflict between Israel and Iran, Baku condemned the actions against Iran. He expressed condolences over the deaths of Iranian officials and civilians, and expressed support for the Islamic Republic and its people.
“Ilham Aliyev noted that the development of relations with Muslim countries, including neighboring states, is one of the priorities of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy,” the Azerbaijani side said in a statement.
The Iranian President also stated that a new page has recently been opened in Iran-Azerbaijan relations, with Baku-Tehran and Baku-Tabriz flights increasing. Pezeshkian also expressed gratitude for Baku's support and solidarity during the conflict with Israel.
