The purpose of the visit to Turkey is also to present our positions, approaches, and proposals in more detail to the Turkish President. Of course, we managed to talk about the Crossroads of Peace project during our meeting in New York last year, but in very general terms, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan stated during his meeting with representatives of the Armenian community in Turkey.
According to him, there will be more time for discussions within the framework of the visit, and he wants to make sure whether Turkey is sufficiently informed about our positions and nuances.
As for what Turkey’s position is on the Crossroads of Peace project, according to the Prime Minister, in order to answer this question, it is first necessary to make sure that Turkey and the President of Turkey are familiar with our proposal in essential details.
“It is very important that I have the opportunity to present the answers to potential questions and our ideas about the full essence of the project to the President of Turkey,” said Pashinyan, noting that such topics cannot be presented even in one discussion.
Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that diplomatic contacts are important for this very reason.
“It is very important to know at the end what the point will be, and we will consider that our goal of this stage has been achieved. I have already said: the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey, the opening of borders, which implies the reopening of Armenia-Turkey roads and railways. Now the Middle Corridor is a very important agenda for Turkey, and also one of the important features of the Crossroads of Peace project is that it is fully included in the Middle Corridor project, which is defended by Turkey and promoted by Turkey, and at least for me it is obvious that the Crossroads of Peace project can be part of the Middle Corridor project and is in that logic," the Prime Minister said.
