“The aggression carried out by the Zionist regime against Iran is a continuation of decades of violations of international law by this regime”, said Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani during a press conference, addressing the Iran-Israel conflict.
“This regime has been the biggest violator of international law and norms, as well as the UN Charter, including humanitarian law and human rights,” the ambassador stated.
“The illegal armed attack by the Zionist regime against Iran is an attack on the entire UN system and poses a serious threat to international peace and security. The UN Security Council is obligated to intervene in order to stop the aggression,” Sobhani emphasized.
He added that “the Zionist regime justifies its military aggression under the pretext of preventing an inevitable threat from Iran and under the guise of preventive defense. Such a concept is in no way recognized in international legal terminology or the UN Charter and is, without a doubt, a clear violation of the prohibition on the use of force as stated in Article 2(4) of the UN Charter.”
“According to Article 51 of the Charter, the Islamic Republic of Iran has the right to self-defense, and this right is inalienable,” the ambassador concluded.
