Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said he discussed with his visiting French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot in Yerevan the bilateral agenda and cooperation. Mirzoyan described the current level of bilateral ties as strategic.
“First of all, we discussed the Armenia-France rich bilateral agenda and the jointly developed composition of our relationship, which allows us to assess it as strategic,” Mirzoyan said at a joint press conference with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot.
“At the same time, our partnership on the ground gives very concrete results, such as the rebuilt Vedi Reservoir, which isn’t the only project through which France has been contributing to strengthening Armenia’s resilience and economic development. We are cooperating in areas that we couldn’t even have discussed several years ago. Here we must credit Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan and French President Macron. It is also thanks to their partnership that we are able to advance the Armenia-France friendship with such huge steps based on historic sympathy and friendship and love between the peoples,” FM Mirzoyan said.
Infrastructure development was also discussed during the meeting, Mirzoyan said.
“The French side’s interest towards this has been growing and soon we will have very tangible and concrete news. In turn, the development of decentralized cooperation is aimed at the development and increase of resilience of the regions that are of strategic significance for the country. In this context we attached importance to holding the fifth conference on decentralized cooperation. Here we will have very good and concrete news as well,” FM Mirzoyan said.
Partnership in various platforms was also discussed. Cooperation in strengthening Armenia-EU ties was highlighted.
“I thanked the French side for their continuous support to Armenia during the whole process and for promoting Armenia’s goals. As an example, I can mention the visa liberalization, around which there are great expectations in Armenia. Of course, the dialogue with the EU has been proceeding with very effective support and encouragement from our French partners. I would also point out the European Political Community format. A few days ago the summit was held in Tirana and it was announced that the 2026 summit will take place in Yerevan. Of course we are interested in this platform and we’ve had active participation since the very beginning. This platform is highly effective for us. The next spring forum will be held in Armenia through support of France and other colleagues,” Mirzoyan said.
Mirzoyan highlighted cooperation with France as part of the La Francophonie.
