At the Presidential Residence, President of the Republic of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan met with President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili, who has arrived in Armenia on an official visit, Armenian President’s Press office reports.
The two presidents first held a private conversation, which was followed by an expanded meeting with the participation of both countries’ delegations.
Welcoming his counterpart, President Khachaturyan stated: “Your visit is yet another testament to the fact that we continue the centuries-old traditions formed over millennia, which relate to the friendship between our peoples. I am confident that our discussions will be ongoing and will once again confirm that the development of Armenia-Georgia, Georgia-Armenia relations will not stop, and we will continue to bring forward new ideas that will contribute to strengthening the friendship between our peoples.”
Thanking President Khachaturyan for the warm welcome, President Mikheil Kavelashvili said: “This is my first visit in the capacity of President, and I am very happy to be in brotherly Armenia. Without a doubt, I fully agree that our centuries-old friendship and brotherhood are exemplary and will continue to develop.”
During the meeting, the sides discussed ways to further deepen the multifaceted relations between the two countries and expand cooperation in various fields. The presidents emphasized the importance of political dialogue and the strengthening of mutual trust for the stability and well-being of both neighboring nations.
The presidents highlighted the imperative of establishing lasting and stable peace in the region, stressing the need to advance a peace-oriented agenda as a key prerequisite for the development of the entire South Caucasus.
The discussion also addressed the facilitation of procedures for Armenian and Georgian citizens to visit each other’s countries. In this context, the prospects of ensuring freedom of movement based on the principle of open borders were also explored.
Positively noting the close ties and cooperation between various government agencies, the presidents particularly emphasized the consistent development of parliamentary diplomacy, viewing it as one of the most effective platforms for strengthening bilateral relations.
The presidents also touched upon the deep historical and cultural commonalities shared by the Armenians and Georgians, stressing that this rich heritage forms the solid foundation of mutual trust, friendship, and lasting partnership.
President Vahagn Khachaturyan highly appreciated Georgia’s mediation efforts aimed at establishing lasting peace in the South Caucasus, noting their significance in fostering regional trust and maintaining stability.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Mikheil Kavelashvili extended an invitation to President Vahagn Khachaturyan to pay a visit to Georgia at an appropriate occasion.
