The explosion in the port occurred on April 26, after which a fire started. As the Iranian Mehr agency wrote, the blast wave was so strong that it seriously damaged most of the buildings in the port, as well as cars. According to the latest data, 46 people died as a result of the explosion, more than 1.2 thousand were injured.
The New York Times reported that the blast at the Iranian port was caused by rocket fuel raw materials. However, Ebrahim Rezaei, a spokesman for the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, denied any connection between the blast and the country's defense sector.
The very next day, Hormozgan Governor Mohammad Ashouri said the explosion was caused by poor safety precautions and storage of materials at the port. Speaking at a press conference today, Iran's Interior Minister confirmed this version, pointing to "negligence" and "omissions" at the port.
