Azerbaijan will not implement decisions made by the European Court. This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on April 9, speaking at an international forum on the topic 'Towards a New World Order' at ADA University.
Aliyev explained that the reason for this is the suspension of the powers of the Azerbaijani delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
"If the delegation does not participate in the Assembly sessions and cannot vote for the selection of judges of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), then the decisions of this court regarding Azerbaijan will be considered invalid. We are deprived of the right to vote. We did not vote for these judges and do not know who they are," Aliyev noted.
In January 2024, PACE refused to ratify the credentials of the Azerbaijani delegation. 90 deputies voted for the resolution, 76 voted against, and four abstained. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said that the 76 deputies who voted against Azerbaijan were restricted from entering the country.
