“Turkey is a special friend of Georgia, and the strategic partnership between the two countries is based on this friendship and strong mutual respect,” stated Georgia’s Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili after meeting with her Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, Georgian Public Broadcaster reports.
According to Botchorishvili, “the exemplary neighborly relations and friendship between Turkey and Georgia are strengthened by political dialogue.”
“First of all, I thank you for supporting my country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. We see Turkey as a crucial regional player with a special role in both global and regional issues. Therefore, it was particularly interesting for me to hear your views and positions on all issues that affect our region. I would like to emphasize the importance of Turkey’s support for Georgia’s aspirations to join the North Atlantic Alliance,” she stated.
The FM noted that” Turkey has remained Georgia’s number-one trading partner for years, and this fact further strengthens the partnership between the countries.”
“We discussed projects of strategic importance for our region. We have managed to implement such important projects as the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan Pipeline, the Baku–Tbilisi–Erzurum Pipeline, and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway projects, which give a new dimension to the role and function of our countries. We are ready to continue working and cooperating to implement new projects,” she stated.
Additionally, during a joint press conference with her Turkish colleague, Maka Botchorishvili stated that Georgia “firmly supports” the idea of peaceful coexistence in the South Caucasus and is ready to continue contributing to promoting peace and constructive cooperation in the region.
“In the context of security challenges, we discussed the third anniversary of the war waged by the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the security environment that threatens the security architecture of Europe and the Black Sea. Ending the war and reaching a peace agreement is of utmost importance for European, especially regional security and its peaceful development in the future,” Botchorishvili stated.
Maka Botchorishvili invited Hakan Fidan to visit Georgia.
