Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Ankara and met with his counterpart Hakan Fidan. According to CNN Türk, the diplomats discussed, in addition to trade, energy and tourism, the cessation of hostilities in Ukraine and the resolution of the conflict.
After the meeting with Fidan, Lavrov stated regarding the Ukrainian war: “We will stop hostilities only when these negotiations yield a solid, stable result that will be beneficial to the Russian Federation,” the Minister said.
He added that the option of “immediate freezing”, cessation of hostilities along the line of contact and consideration of further steps would not satisfy Russia.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also stated that Ankara is ready to hold talks on the situation in Ukraine.
“Our ultimate goal is to achieve a stable peace between our two neighbors. "We are ready to mediate, including hosting the talks," he said during a press conference in Ankara.
