US President Donald Trump announced that he had already had a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. His words were quoted by the New York Post. When asked how much Putin and Trump had communicated, the US President refused to answer. "I'd rather keep quiet," said the head of the White House. At the same time, he noted: “I expect there will be a lot of conversations. We need to get to the point where this war is over.”
The US President said the United States had made progress in talks to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, but declined to provide details of his contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He also said Washington was in touch with Kyiv. The US President again promised to end the war, but did not elaborate on how he planned to do so.
Earlier, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov refused to confirm or deny the fact of the contact between the two presidents, arguing that many different contacts arise in the course of the Washington administration’s work, and this communication is carried out through different channels, which he may not be aware of.
