Talks between Russia and the United States are needed to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said at a press conference in Budapest on Wednesday.
"What is really needed [to end the Ukrainian conflict] is not Russia-Ukraine, but Russia-US talks," he said.
When asked if such talks could take place in Budapest, he clarified that his words could be considered as a standing offer by the Hungarian government. "But the main thing is that such negotiations should take place after all," Orban pointed out.
The states of Europe should not continue to get involved in the armed conflict in Ukraine, and Hungary does not intend to interfere in it either, Orban said.
"Europe is already immersed in the war in Ukraine. The one who trains soldiers and supplies weapons has fallen headlong into military operations. Budapest will not intervene, although we provide and will provide humanitarian aid to refugees from Ukraine," the head of the government said and added.
"The existence of an independent and sovereign Ukraine is in Hungary's interests, but it is not in our interests to separate Russia's economy from Europe."
The Hungarian authorities have repeatedly called for the start of peace talks to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. Budapest does not provide military aid to Kyiv, but supports Ukrainian refugees.
