Armenia will participate in 17th session of Intergovernmental Committee for Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO

The 17th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage will be hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco in Rabat (Sofitel Rabat Jardin des Roses) from 28 November to 3 December 2022.

Armenia will participate in the session of the Committee, the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport said.

More than 1,000 representatives from 125 countries of the world, including member states of the convention, representatives of non-governmental organizations operating under the auspices of UNESCO, observers, as well as media from different countries, are participating in the session.

This annual gathering will be attended by representatives of States Parties, non-governmental organizations, cultural institutions and other stakeholders from across the globe.

Armenia’s delegation represents deputy of the Permanent Representative of Armenia in UNESCO O. Davtyan and representative of the Ministry N. Kilichyan.

One of the important issues on the agenda of the session is the discussion of applications submitted for registration from different countries.

Fifty applications were submitted, of which 4 were for intangible cultural heritage in need of immediate protection, 46 were for inclusion in the representative lists of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity, 5 were proposals for the register of best practices for protection and 2 applications were to receive international assistance provided to member states by intangible cultural heritage fund.

The Republic of Armenia ratified the 2003 UNESCO Convention “On the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage” in 2006.
