OSCE PA should play its decisive role in process of final settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: Eduard Aghajanyan

There is indeed a peace process and various formats of meetings between Armenian and Azerbaijani officials, but I'm afraid the process has so far not transformed into anything else, staying a process. Eduard Aghajanyan, Chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, head of the NA delegation to the OSCE PA, said at the 29th annual session of the OSCE PA on July 3.

“I am glad that my colleague from Azerbaijan refers to international law, because it completely opposes the stance of their President, who says that international law is dead.

Unfortunately, as Mr. (Laurynas) Kasciunas rightly mentioned there are still a number of outstanding issues that wait to be resolved. But all the respect towards the honorable rapporteur, I would like to stress that the Armenian side has handed in all the landmines and their positions to Azerbaijan.

Whereas at the same time, there are still 38 prisoners of war kept as hostages in Azerbaijani prisons which are used as bargaining chips in the above mentioned peace process to gain whatever political advantage over Armenia.

The aggressive rhetoric of the President of Azerbaijan, the continuous acts of ethnic cleansing of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh through physical or psychological harassment, as well as the narrative of the so-called ‘Zangezur corridor’ which in practice means an exterritorial corridor passing through the sovereign territory of Armenia, overall do not help the decrease of the tensions either.

Dear colleagues, the full-scale war has stopped on November 9, 2020 but the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict still waits for its full and comprehensive resolution, and this Parliamentary Assembly should play its crucial role in this process. Thank you,” Aghajanyan stated in his speech.
