Montenegro has closed its airspace to the aircraft of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, according to reports confirmed to TASS by the Russian embassy to the Balkan country on Sunday, TASS reports.
"The Montenegrin Foreign Ministry on Sunday responded to a request sent by the embassy the day before with an official notice saying it had closed its airspace to the Russian foreign minister’s aircraft," the embassy told TASS.
A picture of the document refusing to allow Lavrov’s aircraft cross Serbia’s skies was published earlier by the country’s daily Ve·ernje Novosti. The newspaper said that Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Montenegro had closed their airspace to Lavrov’s plane.
On Friday, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakaharova announced that Lavrov would visit Serbia on June 6-7. He was scheduled to hold talks with Serbia’s president and foreign minister as well as the National Assembly speaker to discuss political and economic cooperation and exchange opinions on the situation in the Balkans and a number of international issues.
