We are committed to deepening mutually beneficial cooperation in areas of mutual interest: Ara Aivazian to Gabrielius Landsbergis

On April 26, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Ara Aivazian met with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, who is on an official visit to Armenia.

Welcoming his Lithuanian counterpart and the delegation led by him, Ara Aivazian considered it symbolic that Minister Landsbergis’ official visit to Armenia takes place in the year of the 30-th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

As reported by the RA MFA, the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Lithuania had a detailed discussion on the issues of bilateral, multilateral agenda.

"Armenia highly values ​​the friendly relations with Lithuania, based on mutual respect, sympathy, as well as common values. Over the past three decades, we have developed a high-level effective political dialogue, close cooperation in various fields. We are committed to deepening and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Friendship between our peoples was also expressed in the framework of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. We appreciate Lithuania’s support to our country,” said Ara Aivazian.

The Ministers also touched upon issues related to the effective cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the RA-EU partnership. The RA Acting Foreign Minister reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to the promotion of democratic principles, the rule of law and the protection of human rights.

The key topics of the meeting were regional, international security and stability issues. Acting Minister Aivazian presented to his counterpart in detail the humanitarian issues demanding an urgent address in the context of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The Acting Foreign Ministers agreed on the need for the immediate repatriation of prisoners of war held hostage in Azerbaijan, as well as the preservation of historical, cultural and religious heritage in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.

“The Armenian people are still facing the challenges arising from the recent Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression against Artsakh. Our region deserves a better future, for that purpose the international community has its role,” Ara Aivazian emphasized.

At the end of the meeting, the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Lithuania gave a joint press conference.

In the morning of the same day, the delegation led by Minister Landsbergis visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial and paid tribute to the memory of the Holy Martyrs.
