A Russian hacker stole the identities of 22 U.S. Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, according to The Daily Beast via the US Secret Service.
The reports claims the data was stolen to buy high-quality goods through a chain of retail stores under the US Department of Defense. As a result, the cyber attacker purchased nearly $55,000-worth goods.
According to the US Secret Service, the purchased packages were first sent to 20 different addresses in the US, then to Russia.
Last year, the FTC received more than 50,000 reports of identity theft from members of the military.
