The RA President Armen Sarkissian gave an interview to the Arabic-language Alghad TV channel, referring to the military aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan.
Stressing that the hostilities were started by Azerbaijan, President Sarkissian said that the justification of the attack presented by that country, as if they were liberating Nagorno Karabakh, is nonsense.
"The reality is that by liberating they mean that they came to cleanse the Armenians from that area, that is, to carry out ethnic cleansing. They want to evict all Armenians and get the territory. In other words, for them this is a war for land”, the President said, adding:
“For the Armenians of Artsakh this is a fight for their own life, dignity, thousands of years of history. This is a struggle for their families, for their children, for their human right to live where they have lived for thousands of years. That is why it is impossible to defeat these people".
Answering the question who wins the war, the President of Armenia noted:
"Armenians are not interested in a war with Azerbaijan, as the Armenians of the Artsakh Republic had no intention of invading Azerbaijan. They have their homeland, they are focused on building their country. For the Azerbaijani side, winning the war means killing all Armenians or expelling them from the territory, the same thing that happened to Armenians 105 years ago in the Ottoman Empire. This is another attempt to commit the Armenian Genocide, this time in Artsakh.
And the same Turkey is now participating in all this. Turkey not only supports Azerbaijan, but is present and actively involved in the war". Addressing the Arab world at the journalist's suggestion, President Sarkissian noted: "Armenia, this region is facing great challenges, and it is time to raise your voice and defend the truth, stability and peace in the region".
