OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs and personal representative of OSCE chairman-in-office have issued a statement concerning the regional visit scheduled on October 23-25.
The co-chairs’ visit was aimed at the discussion of the ongoing situation along the line of contact of opposing forces following April escalation, as well as the clarification of the position of the parties engaged in negotiation process.
During the meetings the parties have confirmed that the current situation can be qualified as ”relatively peaceful”. The co-chairs have once again stressed that ceasefire regime maintenance is the fundamental prerequisite for continuing the talks, by stressing the importance of the agreements achieved during Vienna and Saint-Petersburg talks, as well as their full implementation.
Apart from this the co-chairs also discussed current work proposals aimed at establishment of lasting peace. It has also been mentioned that RA and Azerbaijani presidents have presented their positions to move the negotiation process forward. Within the framework of OSCE Ministerial Council in Hamburg, scheduled in December 2016, the co-chairs intend to hold meetings with foreign ministers of both countries to discuss the issue of organizing a meeting between the two presidents in the shortest possible timeframe.
