Reuters. U.S. President Donald Trump spoke to reporters at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) Airport early on Tuesday (June 9) morning, after attending Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, where he received a mixed reception from fans.
Trump said negotiations with Iran were ongoing and suggested progress could be clear within “one or two days,” while insisting a U.S. blockade remained fully effective.
The President had arrived on Marine One after departing downtown New York late on Monday (June 8) after the game finished.
Responding to questions about a reported military helicopter incident in the Strait, he said the pilots were safe and no one was injured, with a formal report expected the next day.
Trump has been engaged in a month-long military conflict with Iran that began in March, following U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities last June.
The war has proven unpopular with Americans amid rising oil prices, and Trump has faced pressure to demonstrate that major military objectives have been accomplished while signalling a possible exit from the conflict within weeks.
