Iran has once again attacked the United Arab Emirates with ballistic missiles and drones, causing a fire to break out at Dubai International Airport.
The UAE Ministry of Defense stated that since the beginning of the Iranian attacks on the country, 551 ballistic missiles, 29 cruise missiles, and 2,263 drones have been intercepted. A total of 230 people of various nationalities have been injured, while 13 people, including three servicemen and 10 civilians, have been killed.
The ministry declared that the UAE is fully prepared to confront threats targeting the country’s security and stability. At the same time, the UAE authorities decided to withdraw from the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, arguing that the country did not receive support from its Arab neighbors during the Iranian attacks, Africa Intelligence reports.
The Emirates managed to repel 95% of Iran’s attacks thanks to a multilayered air defense system and assistance from several allies. At the beginning of the conflict, Israel secretly deployed the Iron Dome missile defense system in the UAE.
American THAAD and Patriot air defense systems repelled hundreds of airstrikes. The United States also provided intelligence and military support to the UAE. United Kingdom deployed early warning aircraft in the country to strengthen air defense in coordination with local forces.
Greece offered ammunition from its sovereign stockpiles. South Korea accelerated exports of its Cheongung air defense systems and also sent equipment from its own reserves. Ukraine offered low-cost drone interception systems and specialists experienced in countering Russian and Iranian drones. France, Italy, and Australia also contributed to the security of the Emirates.
However, the Arab world, including Egypt, which possesses the second strongest army after Israel, limited itself to statements condemning Iran. Arab solidarity did not withstand the test of this war. The Arabs did not provide such support to the Gulf countries, the publication notes.
According to observers, the withdrawal of the UAE from the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation could encourage other Gulf countries, including Qatar and Bahrain, to take similar steps and seek new allies.
