Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan delivered a speech at the event organized on the occasion of the anniversary of the Border Guard Troops of the National Security Service of Armenia.
He, in particular, noted: “Congratulating all of us on the occasion of the Border Guard Day, first of all, I would like to thank all the border guards for their service.
Today, your service in the Republic of Armenia is carried out in an exceptional historical situation, when for the first time since Armenia’s independence, all border crossing points of the Republic of Armenia are overseen and service is carried out there by the border guards of the Republic of Armenia.
The next important news that we have had for two years regarding the borders of the Republic of Armenia is that we have a delimited and demarcated 12-kilometer border section with Azerbaijan, where the border guards of the Republic of Armenia carry out service. And this is also a very important and exceptional situation, and I must record that those 12 kilometers are perhaps the only section of the Armenian and Azerbaijani border where representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan armed forces carry out service without helmets, without body armor, and with their rifle magazines placed in bags, not on their rifles.
This, of course, happened by agreement reached between the border guard troops, governments of Armenia and Azerbaijan, and this makes us think or notice the obvious fact that border guard troops are usually a symbol of peace, because where border guards are standing on the border, peace reigns on that border in most cases.
Our desire and goal is that all sections of the border of the Republic of Armenia be under the responsibility of the border guard troops. And we are going that way. In the near future, of course, we will continue and complete the border delimitation between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan within a reasonable time frame.”
