Iran has not asked the United States to extend the ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, Iran’s Tasnim news agency reports.
“Negotiations between representatives of Tehran and Washington in Islamabad will be possible when the United States lifts the blockade of Iranian ports,” said Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Earlier, Donald Trump stated that the United States would, for now, postpone new strikes against Iran, but would not lift the maritime blockade of Iranian ports. He explained the need to maintain the blockade by saying that without it there would never be a deal with Tehran. “Iran does not want the Strait of Hormuz to be closed, because it earns $500 million a day. That is exactly what they would lose if the strait were closed,” the White House chief said.
