On March 30, the Head of the RA NA Armenia-Belgium Friendship Group Armen Rustamyan, the members of the Group Shirak Torosyan, Aleksey Sandikov and Hripsime Hunanyan met with the representatives of the Belgium-Armenia Friendship Group of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Belgium arrived in Armenia.
Welcoming the guests, the Head of the Armenia-Belgium Friendship Group Armen Rustamyan noted that during the last five years of the activities of the Armenia-Belgium Friendship Group, there had been many opportunities to discuss issues of mutual interest. According to him, it is a great occasion to summarize the work of the past years with their colleagues.
Referring to regional developments, Armen Rustamyan spoke about the relations with neighbouring Azerbaijan and the started peace process. According to him, a stable and irreversible peace may only exist if all the problems that have existed are resolved.
During the meeting, the interlocutors touched upon a number of issues related to the strong ties between Armenia and Belgium, inter-parliamentary relations, the initialed Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, the rights of people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh and the possibility of their return, the release of people being held in Baku, the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia, and constitutional amendments.
Els van Hoof, the Head of the Belgium-Armenia Friendship Group of the Parliament of the Kingdom Belgium, in her turn, emphasized the friendly relations between the two countries and highlighted the parliamentary cooperation in that context. “The friendship between Armenia and Belgium is based on common and shared values: democracy, rule of law, peace and stability. And those values are our common values, which are the subject of many discussions in the Parliament of Belgium, including the topic of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict,” she said, adding that, the Parliament of Belgium has adopted four resolutions regarding Armenia over the last five years.
The member of the NA Armenia-Belgium Friendship Group Shirak Torosyan presented the official views on the issues discussed to his European colleagues and emphasized the process aimed at stable and irreversible peace.
