Iran launched a missile strike on Israel immediately after the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as the country’s Supreme Leader.
Air raid sirens sounded across significant parts of central and northern Israel, including Tel Aviv and Haifa, the civil defense command reported. According to Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency service, about 20 people were injured as a result of the Iranian missile strikes.
Iran also attacked Bahrain, damaging a major oil refinery.
The Israeli army had also announced on March 9 the launch of “another wave of airstrikes against Iranian infrastructure” in central Iran. The strikes targeted command centers of internal security forces and the Basij formation, which are known for suppressing protest actions inside Iran. In addition, missile launch sites and a factory producing missile engines were shelled.
