The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry has again issued a statement regarding the drone strikes on Nakhijevan.
“The statement of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran that Iran respects the sovereignty of all countries, especially Muslim and neighboring states, and that today Iran has not allegedly carried out attacks against Azerbaijan using drones cannot be considered acceptable under any circumstances.
According to available information, it was established using technical means that four drones of the Iranian armed forces were sent to carry out attacks on the Nakhichevan region of Azerbaijan. One of them was destroyed by the Azerbaijani army forces, while the others targeted civilian infrastructure, including a high school during school hours. The drone targeting the school, fortunately, did not reach its target and exploded on the ground next to the building. Taking into account the above, we expect the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran to stop their blatant denial of what happened, apologize for what happened, and the relevant Iranian authorities to punish those responsible,” the statement said.
In light of the incident, Azerbaijani and Turkish Foreign Ministers Jeyhun Bayramov and Hakan Fidan had a telephone conversation.
