Negotiations between the United States and Iran have begun in Muscat, the capital of Oman. The meeting is attended by U.S. President’s Special Envoy Witkoff and the President’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. The Iranian delegation is led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who earlier held a separate meeting with his Omani counterpart.
It is reported that today’s talks will focus on general issues rather than the technical details of the nuclear topic, serving as an introduction to developing a roadmap for the continuation of the negotiations.
Ahead of the talks, Iran’s Foreign Minister wrote on social media that Iran is acting in good faith and firmly defending the country’s rights. “Equal rights, mutual respect, and mutual interests are not rhetoric, but a necessity and the foundation of a sustainable agreement,” Araghchi said.
