In Abu Dhabi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev were presented with the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity.
During the official ceremony, the Azerbaijani President stated in his speech that the two countries have been living in peace for six months.
“As I have said many times, we are learning. We are learning to live in peace, and it is a special feeling. Following the historic summit hosted by U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, the past six months have been months of partnership, cooperation, and progress toward long-term and sustainable peace,” he said.
Aliyev expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for his contribution to peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. “On August 8, 2025, he hosted a trilateral summit that led to the initialing of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the signing of a joint declaration. President Trump also signed it as a witness, thus bringing an end to a long-standing, bloody, and deadly conflict that lasted more than thirty years,” he emphasized.
According to him, the past six months have been of crucial importance for the development of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. “We not only lifted restrictions on cargo transportation to Armenia through Azerbaijan, but also began exporting petroleum products to Armenia. In other words, over the past six months we have established cooperation. We are now expanding our trade relations. This morning I met with my Armenian counterpart, and we discussed the next steps,” Aliyev concluded.
