The Deputy Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Rustam Bakoyan met with the representatives of the Yazidi community in Armenia, including the heads of the Yazidi Spiritual Council and the National Union of Yazidi NGO, the mother of Kyaram Sloyan, who died in the April war, the fighters of Kyaram Sloyan volunteer detachment, as well as the heads of administrative districts on February 2.
Rustam Bakoyan emphasized the importance of regular meetings with the community, during which it is possible to learn about the issues of concern to community representatives and try to discuss them with the responsible persons of the relevant instances.
The attendees voiced their concerns regarding certain issues arising from the peculiarities of the community, which were discussed. The guests noted that the community had a unified position on the issues raised.
Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed at the meeting. The representatives of the community spoke about the need to have a Yazidi language Chair at the Khachatur Abovian Armenian State Pedagogical University.
Rustam Bakoyan also touched upon the legislative initiatives he has authored related to the community.
The interlocutors agreed to meet again in the near future.
