On January 26, the RA NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan received the delegation led by the Deputy Chair of the Bulgaria-Armenia Friendship Group of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria Manoil Manew.
The meeting was attended by the RA NA Head of the Armenia-Bulgaria Friendship Group Babken Tunyan, and the members of the group Alkhas Ghazaryan and Esther Ayvazyan.
The RA NA Vice President highly appreciated the interstate relations between Armenia and Bulgaria, based on the warm and brotherly ties of the two friendly peoples. According to him, high-level mutual visits have contributed to the development and deepening of effective bilateral cooperation, and the role of parliamentary diplomacy is of particular importance. Hakob Arshakyan also noted with satisfaction the recent holding of a session of the intergovernmental commission of the two countries.
The NA Vice President underscored that the Bulgarian side was offered to elevate bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership.
Mentioning that the Peace Declaration signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington on August 8 also envisages the unblocking of communication routes, Hakob Arshakyan expressed conviction that new prospects will open in terms of trade and economic cooperation with Bulgaria within the framework of the TRIPP project. In this context, the NA Vice President highly appreciated the positive response of Bulgarian partners to the peace process.
In May 2026, Yerevan will host the European Political Community Summit, as well as the UN Biodiversity Conference (COP 17). Hakob Arshakyan expressed hope that there will be an opportunity to host the Bulgarian partners in Yerevan within the framework of these events.
According to the RA NA Head of the Armenia-Bulgaria Friendship Group Babken Tunyan, Bulgaria, as a friendly country, is of particular importance to Armenia. Babken Tunyan also expressed gratitude to the Bulgarian side for its constructive position on the Peace Agreement. The Head of the Friendship Group assured that Armenia is in favor of deepening cooperation with its neighboring countries in a peaceful environment in the region.
Such visits contribute to the development of effective and targeted cooperation in areas of mutual interest. A similar opinion was expressed by the member of the Friendship Group Alkhas Ghazaryan.
The Deputy Chair of the Bulgaria-Armenia Friendship Group Manoil Manew also highlighted the importance of cooperation at the level of friendship groups, which is an effective impetus for the expansion of bilateral ties.
The prospects for deepening economic ties, cooperation between similar parliamentary committees, and expanding relations in various fields were also discussed. The restoration of direct air communication between Sofia and Yerevan was emphasized, which will also contribute to tourism communication, interpersonal contacts of the citizens and business development. The significant role of the Bulgarian-Armenian community in the public life of Bulgaria and the development of relations between the two states was emphasized.
