Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the United States Narek Mkrtchyan met with President of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Dallin H. Oaks, First Counselor Henry B. Eyring, and Second Counselor D. Todd Christofferson, Embassy of Armenia to USA reports.
The Ambassador highlighted the long-standing humanitarian activities of the Church in Armenia, beginning with the response to the Spitak earthquake, and expressed gratitude for its continued support.
The Ambassador also welcomed the participation of senior Church leaders in the Christmas event held on January 9 at the Washington National Cathedral, noting that, as with a number of other religious organizations, the Church operates freely in Armenia, as religious freedom is a core pillar of democracy in the country.
The meeting underscored the importance of religious freedom, interfaith dialogue, and cooperation based on shared values.
