Georgia welcomes the restoration of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the development of trade and economic ties, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on the air of Imedi TV channel.
According to him, the ideas that Georgia will lose its transit function are speculation.
"Large investments are being made to strengthen Georgia's transit role. The alternative corridor does not pose a threat to Georgia. I would like to note an indicator confirming this: over the past 5 years, cargo transportation along the Middle Corridor has increased 7 times.
Our only task is to use our infrastructure to the maximum to accommodate the increasing cargo volumes. In conditions of such growth, the alternative corridor will only complement our transit function. We will direct as much funds as possible to the development of our transit role in the future," Kobakhidze added.
