U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, touching upon a number of issues.
He reiterated his claim that he played an important role in resolving the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Trump began his speech by criticizing Europe, describing the continent as problematic. According to him, Europe is moving in the wrong direction. He noted that European countries are being harmed, in particular, by “uncontrolled migration, endless imports, and green energy.”
The main topic of Trump’s speech, however, was Greenland. He called the United States’ decision to return the island to Denmark after the end of World War II foolish. Trump recalled that during the war, Danish forces were unable to defend either their own country or Greenland, and that the United States took it under its protection at that time.
President Trump asserted that only his country is capable of protecting Greenland and said he seeks to begin “immediate negotiations” to acquire the island, emphasizing that he does not want to use military force in this matter. Trump stressed that the United States must own the island in order to be able to protect it.
Addressing the issue of Ukraine, the U.S. leader stated that Washington should not be involved in resolving the Ukrainian crisis, calling it Europe’s responsibility. “The United States is very far away, we are separated by a big, beautiful ocean, and we have nothing to do with it,” Trump said while discussing the possibility of resolving the Ukrainian crisis.
At the same time, he noted that later on Wednesday he would meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to Trump, both the Ukrainian leader and Russian President Vladimir Putin want to put an end to the nearly four-year-long war.
