“We realized that it is impossible to get out of this deadlock without recognizing each other’s territorial integrity, the inviolability of borders, and sovereignty,” Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during the discussion “Armenia and Peace at the Crossroads of Risks and Opportunities,” held within the framework of a security forum organized by the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs.
“If we had not made these decisions, I won’t even try to describe what the situation in our region would have been as of January 14.
Let us assess a very important situation: essentially, the world is in turmoil, while Armenia and our region today, step by step—at least in the Armenia–Azerbaijan context—are turning into an environment of stability and security, which is extremely important. This is a very significant achievement,” Pashinyan said.
The Prime Minister also commented on the TRIPP project, noting:
“It is now evident that the outstanding questions related to the TRIPP project, which existed after the adoption of the declaration, have received answers. It is very important that we have a resolution that fully satisfies—and should satisfy—Armenia and the United States, and, in my opinion [of course, they will respond, we’ll see], Azerbaijan as well.”
According to the Prime Minister, this gives the green light to establishing long-term and sustainable peace in the region.
Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the role of U.S. President Donald Trump:
“It is clear that now large investments and significant funds will flow into our region, and that is very good news,” the Prime Minister said.
It should be recalled that on January 13, Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan held a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Later, Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a joint statement on the publication of the Armenia–U.S. implementation framework for the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) project, the text of which was disseminated by the governments of the Republic of Armenia and the United States of America.
