Heavy rains have lashed Istanbul, turning major roads into rivers, flooding homes and businesses and causing traffic disruptions across the city, disrupting daily life on both the Asian and European sides of one of Turkey’s largest cities.
The heavy rains have also flooded the resort of Alanya in the province of Antalya. Underpasses in several places were flooded, trapping eight people in their cars, but they were rescued. There were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries.
The rains have been continuing for several days. The water level has risen rapidly due to manholes in the sewers that were flooded by the storm. Despite the efforts of rescue services, the water level has not been brought down.
