Russia has said it is ready to continue “actively engaging” in the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process.
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said the process covers the signing of a peace treaty, the delimitation and demarcation of the border between the two countries, as well as the unblocking of transport and economic links.
It added that Russia is ready to cooperate as part of the 3+3 regional format as well.
The ministry welcomed the initialing of the peace treaty by Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington on August 8, describing it as “important progress” toward normalization.
At the same time, Moscow said that all high-level trilateral agreements between Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, signed between 2020 and 2022, remain in force and serve as “the roadmap” for the peace process.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that Yerevan and Baku still have work to do to give an irreversible character to the normalization of their bilateral relations. This includes signing a peace agreement, restoring communications, completing border processes in a fair and mutually acceptable manner, and establishing effective contacts between civil societies.
According to Moscow, the final signing of a peace agreement, the restoration of communications, and the completion of the border delimitation process would be beneficial for the countries of the South Caucasus and the region’s immediate neighbors.
