Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan has met with a delegation led by Adrienn Kiraly, Director for Eastern Neighborhood and Institutional Development at the Directorate-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission.
Minister Sargsyan highlighted close cooperation with the EU, emphasizing the tangible steps and results achieved toward visa liberalization. She stressed that the Action Plan will soon be handed over to the Armenian government, which will provide a significant boost to the ongoing processes, the ministry said in a press release.
Sargsyan also noted the introduction of a biometric system in Armenia, through which citizens will receive new-format passports and identification cards starting in 2026. The minister emphasized that work on developing the Migration Strategy is ongoing, with the concept expected to be finalized by the end of the year.
Legislative work aimed at preventing discrimination is also in an active phase. In addition, it was noted that, for the first time, a Unified Strategy for Crime Prevention will be adopted in Armenia, with related initiatives currently in active development.
Adrienn Kiraly emphasized the importance of effective bilateral cooperation and expressed readiness to continue it. The EU partners reaffirmed their support for Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative. They highly appreciated the steps taken by Armenia toward visa liberalization with the EU.
From the perspective of strengthening cooperation, the appointment of a liaison officer by Armenia to Europol was highlighted, with the candidacy to be presented soon. Issues related to ongoing programs in border management and police cooperation were also discussed.
