We are interested in close cooperation with Azerbaijan in various regional formats: the CIS and SCO, the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, the Caspian Five and the 3+3 regional cooperation platform, as well as in the context of building a Eurasian security architecture, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a briefing held today, Azerbaijan media reports.
“We see the strengthening of dialogue with Baku and the Eurasian Economic Union. This is evidenced by the good tradition of the Azerbaijani Prime Minister attending the meetings of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council as an honorary guest. The last such event took place in Minsk on September 30 this year.
We positively assess our cooperation with Baku in the CIS format. Our partners are very active in various areas of cooperation. For example, this year, Azerbaijan is hosting all three thematic capitals of the CIS. For example, Gabala is the youth capital, Lachin is the cultural capital, and Ganja is the sports capital. During this period, from September 28 to October 8, the III CIS Games were successfully held in seven cities of Azerbaijan with the participation of more than 1,500 athletes in 23 sports. We have already commented on this.
Of course, we welcome Baku’s accession to a number of final documents of the Dushanbe summit on October 10. These include cooperation of heads of state in combating transnational crime and the tragedy at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
"Azerbaijan also supported the adoption of the Cooperation Program in Combating Terrorism and Extremism for 2026-2028 - an important medium-term document on specific areas of joint activities of the CIS countries to ensure regional security," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted.
