Reuters. One person was killed and 38 were missing under rubble on Tuesday (September 30) after an under-construction building at the Al Khoziny Islamic boarding school compound collapsed in Indonesia’s East Java province a day earlier.
Dozens of people were praying on the ground floor of the building when it came crashing down on Monday (September 29) afternoon, while construction work was under way for a fourth floor of the structure in the town of Sidoarjo, the disaster mitigation agency said.
Around 100 people were rescued, the agency added, with nearly 80 injured who were taken to hospital.
The building's foundations allegedly could not support the weight of construction on its fourth floor, the agency said.
