What happened in Washington, part of it, was related to the initialing of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which we have always supported, and now we express our support and welcome it, outgoing Iranian ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani noted at his farewell press conference Friday.
“There are five principles included and emphasized in that statement. These are the principles that we [i.e. Iran] have always supported. These five principles are: national sovereignty, territorial integrity, the principle of reciprocity, jurisdiction, and the inviolability of borders.
Of course, there were also incomprehensible moments. But during the bilateral meetings and talks, I can say that those incomprehensible moments were eliminated. The incomprehensible moments relate to the details that were not discussed.
However, what I can clearly state today is that the government and authorities of the Republic of Armenia have clearly stated that they will not take any action or steps that do not serve the interests of both countries.
We [i.e. Iran] are in very close contact with Armenia’s authorities, so that during these discussions and meetings we are informed about the details that will be discussed later. However, there is a general mutual understanding between the authorities of the two countries,” stressed the outgoing Iranian ambassador to Armenia.
