The new Ambassador of the United Kingdom, Alexandra Cole, has presented her credentials to Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan.
President Khachaturyan congratulated the ambassador on assuming office and wished her a successful tenure, the presidential office said in a press release.
He emphasized that developing relations with the UK is important for Armenia.
“In recent years, our cooperation has noticeably intensified, and as a result, our bilateral partnership has reached the level of a strategic partnership,” the President said, expressing hope that the two countries will sign the respective agreement soon.
Speaking about Armenia’s path of development, the President noted that since gaining independence, Armenia has consistently defended and advanced its democratic principles, having passed through a difficult and responsible journey thus far.
“Thank you also for accepting my credentials,” the ambassador said.
“This is a wonderful time to be the British Ambassador to Armenia. I believe our relations have truly improved in recent years, and the agreement to elevate them to a strategic partnership gives us many opportunities to work together on a range of issues of mutual interest — based on democracy, the rule of law, human rights, and especially sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Regional developments and efforts toward establishing sustainable and lasting peace were also discussed.
New prospects for cooperation in strengthening the partnership in high technologies and cybersecurity were explored.
Opportunities for launching direct London–Yerevan flights were addressed, and the importance of intensifying parliamentary diplomacy as a key component of deepening bilateral ties was highlighted.
The upcoming European Political Community Summit and COP17, both to be hosted by Armenia next year, were also on the agenda.
