On September 16, the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in the Federal Republic of Germany hosted an official reception at the TUMO Center in Berlin to mark the 34th anniversary of Armenia's independence.
According to the Armenian Embassy in Germany, the event was attended by officials from the German government, members of the Bundestag, ambassadors accredited to Germany, diplomats, representatives of local authorities, and members of the Armenian community.
The opening remarks were delivered by Victor Yengibaryan, Ambassador of Armenia to Germany, and Niklas Wagner, Commissioner for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia at the German Federal Foreign Office.
In his speech, Ambassador Yengibaryan stated:
"The path to independence was a conscious decision by the Armenian people—to live freely, independently, and with dignity. These values remain central to the Armenian nation today. Independent statehood is not only a cornerstone of national security but also a reflection of sovereignty, democracy, and a culture of peaceful coexistence—a way of life to which the Republic of Armenia remains firmly committed."
Referring to the agreements reached in Washington, Ambassador Yengibaryan emphasized:
"From now on, the logic of peace—not conflict—will prevail across our region. The agreement on peace and normalization of interstate relations opens up broad opportunities not only for Armenia but also for neighboring countries and the European Union."
The Ambassador praised the strong interstate relations between Armenia and Germany, the high-level political dialogue, and the active bilateral cooperation across numerous sectors.
He concluded his speech by extending special thanks to the TUMO Center in Berlin for hosting the event.
Niklas Wagner, Commissioner for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia at the German Federal Foreign Office, noted in his remarks:
"With the preliminary peace agreement signed in Washington on August 8, Armenia and Azerbaijan have turned a new page in their history. Both countries have demonstrated their readiness to resolve complex issues through negotiations and to make difficult compromises."
"Together with the United States and our European partners, Germany has long provided active political support to the peace talks. We will continue, alongside our EU partners, to offer both political and humanitarian support to Armenia in its next steps toward normalizing relations with neighboring Azerbaijan."
"From our own history of reconciliation with neighboring countries, we know that achieving lasting peace takes time."
