In an interview with Al Arabiya TV, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated that the event held at the White House on August 8 effectively marked the end of confrontation with Armenia and the beginning of a path out of deadlock. According to him, the declaration signed in Washington serves as a guarantee of security and sustainable development for Armenia.
“The significance of the document signed in Washington lies in the fact that both sides recognize each other’s territorial integrity. Our future interactions will be based on this fundamental principle of international law. And once again, this is not an agreement between me and Nikol Pashinyan, but between our two states. Therefore, if Armenia does not respect our territorial integrity, we will reciprocate accordingly,” Aliyev said.
At the same time, he reiterated that the Constitution of Armenia still contains provisions that question Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. He added that a peace treaty will only be signed once this obstacle is removed.
Speaking about the Trump Route, Aliyev noted that it will become a key transportation link connecting continents and poses no threat to Iran. He expressed confidence that now, with the route bearing Trump’s name, it will soon be implemented.
The Azerbaijani President also touched on relations with Moscow, emphasizing that the downing of an AZAL civilian aircraft should not have happened and was the result of a mistake by the Russian side. “The response of Russian officials to the incident has caused deep disappointment in Azerbaijan,” Aliyev stressed, also voicing concern over violence against Azerbaijanis residing in Russia.
“We are not responsible for the deterioration of relations. We respond constructively, but we will never tolerate any manifestation of disrespect toward us,” he said.
Regarding Ukraine, President Aliyev underscored that Baku supports Ukraine and its territorial integrity.
