U.S. President Donald Trump has said he will support efforts to secure the release of 23 Armenian captives held in Azerbaijani prisons. According to Armenpress, Trump made the statement during a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the White House.
“Are you talking about the 23 Christians? I’m going to ask him [apparently referring to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev] to do it. I think they’ll do it for me. This is important, isn’t it?” Trump said.
Earlier, during a press conference in Washington, Prime Minister Pashinyan stated that he raises the issue of Armenian captives in Azerbaijan at all high-level meetings.
Azerbaijan officially confirms that it is holding around 23 Armenian captives.
