Reuters/CCTV. China has expressed deep concerns after Thai and Cambodian troops clashed in a disputed border area, calling on the two sides to resolve their issues properly through dialogue and consultation.
According to media reports, an armed conflict that erupted on Thursday between Thailand and Cambodia has killed at least twelve people across three provinces.
Speaking at a regular news briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said that Thailand and Cambodia are both friendly neighbors of China and important members of ASEAN.
He emphasized that resolving their differences through dialogue and consultation is in the fundamental and long-term interests of all parties involved.
"We are deeply concerned over the ongoing developments and hope that the two sides will properly address issues through dialogue and consultation," Guo said.
The spokesman said that from the perspective of the common interests and concerns of regional countries, China upholds a just and impartial stance.
"We have and will continue to promote talks for peace in our own way and play a constructive role in promoting deescalation," Guo said.
