The Kremlin on Friday commenting on possible WhatsApp exit from the Russian market said that all services must abide by Russian law. Nevertheless, Peskov said that WhatsApp remains the most popular messaging service in Russia.
"WhatsApp is generally the most popular service in many countries, including Russia. This is the number one service in terms of popularity. And, as with all services, of course, there are certain responsibilities in accordance with the Russian laws. And all laws must be abided by", Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
Earlier today Anton Gorelkin, deputy head of the lower house of parliament's information technology committee, said in a statement on Telegram that WhatsApp should prepare to leave the Russian market, warning that the messaging app owned by Meta Platforms is very likely to be put on a list of restricted software.
