During a meeting in Beijing, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi highlighted the historical ties between the two ancient civilizations and reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation across various sectors.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi welcomed his Armenian counterpart warmly, noting the significance of the visit. “Since your appointment, you have actively supported and promoted the development of relations between China and Armenia, which we highly appreciate,” said Wang. He emphasized the historical depth of the two nations’ relations, citing the ancient Silk Road as a symbol of long-standing friendship and collaboration.
“Regardless of changes in the international and regional landscape, our countries have consistently maintained mutual respect, trust, and beneficial cooperation, resulting in stable progress in our relations,” Wang Yi stated.
Highlighting the success of collaboration within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, Wang noted that trade turnover between the two countries grew significantly last year, with a 58% increase in the first four months of this year alone – an impressive figure even by China’s standards. Chinese investments in Armenia, he added, are welcome, and the increasing presence of Chinese brands in Armenia and Armenian products in China reflects the growing cultural and economic exchange.
He also pointed to deepening humanitarian ties, citing the recent launch of direct flights and the visa-free travel regime as key tools strengthening people-to-people connections.
“We are ready to work with Armenia to strengthen our friendship, deepen mutual trust, and expand cooperation for the benefit of both countries’ development,” concluded Wang.
In his remarks, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan thanked his Chinese counterpart for the warm hospitality and emphasized the importance of his visit. “This is my first visit to China and I must say I am truly impressed by your magnificent civilization,” Mirzoyan said.
He highlighted the symbolic nature of arriving in Beijing via the newly established direct Yerevan–Urumqi flight. “This is a tangible example of our growing ties and a valuable opportunity to strengthen connections between our peoples and business communities,” he said.
Referring to economic relations, Mirzoyan confirmed that trade volume reached $700 million last year, underscoring the positive momentum. However, he noted that this does not yet reflect the full potential of bilateral cooperation.
“This visit is a good opportunity to explore new horizons and examine how we can enhance our economic partnership further,” he said, adding that building stronger political dialogue and becoming more predictable and strategic partners is equally important.
Mirzoyan concluded by expressing confidence in the compatibility of the two countries’ visions on many international issues and emphasized Armenia’s interest in deepening cooperation with China in multilateral platforms.
