The Armenian authorities have organized a bus service at the border with Iran for incoming travelers, Armenpress reports.
The service was launched after a number of private taxi drivers attempted to exploit the ongoing situation and were offering rides from the border to Yerevan for absurd high prices.
The new bus service operator will offer standard prices: 12,000 AMD per person for a ride to Yerevan.
Syunik Governor Robert Ghukasyan said that the influx of persons crossing the border is as usual. There’s been no growing numbers, he said.
“There’s been no problem with transportation of people, but there was the infamous story pertaining to the taxi drivers,” Ghukasyan said, branding the price hike as unacceptable.
“Therefore, we discussed with our partners and decided that there will be small and medium sized buses, which are already available,” Ghukasyan said.
Inbound travelers from Iran include, among others, persons of various nationalities who were working in Iran and are now returning to their countries by land into Armenia then via the Yerevan airport to their destination since the Iranian airspace is closed amid the conflict with Israel.
“Given the small flow of people there is no need for any humanitarian intervention. The hotels in the province are also in usual tourism numbers. Regarding the taxi drivers, we have strictly warned them not to exploit the situation. And now there is already transportation available with standard prices.”
