The Islamic Republic's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has appointed Ahmad Vahidi as commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) after Hossein Salami was killed in Israeli strikes, Iran Wire reports.
Vahidi, a former IRGC commander who was Interior Minister in Ebrahim Raisi's administration, was named the commander of IRGC following Salami's death in Israel's widespread attacks.
The IRGC vowed "severe and regretful revenge" for the attacks, saying "the miscalculation and crime of the sworn enemies of Iran and Iranians will not go unanswered."
The strikes have killed multiple senior Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists.
The strikes also killed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander-in-chief Hossein Salami and Khatam al-Anbia commander Gholamali Rashid.
Senior IRGC commander Gholamali Rashid and nuclear scientists Fereydoun Abbasi and Mohammad-Mehdi Tehranchi were also killed in the attacks, according to a state-run agency.
The IRGC headquarters in Tehran was among the targets hit during the Israeli operation, Iranian state media reported.
